Every ingredient that goes into the loaves, buns and bagels at ROYO Bread Co. has been carefully selected for a reason; that’s what has gradually led us to our low-carb, sugar-free, plant-based recipes that blow's people's minds with incredible, authentic taste.
But, if we’re being honest, there are four superfood ingredients that hold a particularly special place in our hearts: Flaxseed, Psyllium husk, Oat Fiber and Apple Cider Vinegar.
We don’t mean to play favorites… but it is what it is. Hear us out and we’ll explain exactly why we’ve can’t live without these powerhouses (and why we’ve included them in each and every one of our products).
1. Flaxseed
If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know how much we adore flaxseed (or flax meal, the more easily digested, ground-up version that we bake into our breads).
This high fiber, high protein ancient grain keeps you feeling full and satiated, helps lower cholesterol, and avoids spikes in your blood sugar level. It’s also packed full of vitamins, minerals, and healthy fatty acids.Such an over-achiever.
2. Psyllium husk
This plant-based soluble fiber, used in many natural health supplements, is super water absorbent, making it what experts call “digestion resistant”.
What does this mean, exactly? Well, due to the way it interacts with partially digested food in our small intestine, psyllium has a great impact on healthy bowel movements. It also helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and even aids weight loss.
3. Oat Fiber
In our humble opinion, Oat Fiber is one of the most slept-on form of oats out there. Light in color and mild in flavor, oat fiber is made by grinding the often discarded, thin layer that surrounds the oat (the oat hull).
Comprised mostly of insoluble fiber, oat fiber has a ton of health benefits. It’s super low-calorie, supports your gastro-intestinal health, acts as a completely natural preservative, and helps to give our bread its delicious texture. Doing the most!
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Known for its probiotic qualities, this age-old home remedy has been used for centuries in cooking and medicine.
Many swear by it as a way to aid weight loss, improve heart health, and improve blood sugar and insulin levels for people with diabetes. Plus, it’s yet another way we naturally preserve our bread without adding any of that nasty stuff.
So, now you know. Go forth and enjoy your morning toast, knowing that the taking care of your body is taken care of!
